ABIGAIL SPANBERGER AND GHAZALA HASHMI FOR VIRGINIA GOV AND LG

Today, the DMV New Liberals are proud to endorse former Representative Abigail Spanberger for Governor of Virginia and State Senator Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. 

Abigail Spanberger is a career public servant who most recently represented Virginia's 7th Congressional District, there she was rated as one of the most effective members of Congress. She championed a ban on Congressional stock trading and helped pass a bill to prevent fentanyl overdoses. Spanberger also was a leader among the New Democrat Caucus during her time on Capitol Hill.

 As Governor, she will work to lower costs for Virginians, stand up for civil liberties and reproductive freedoms, drive investments in Virginia's economy, protect federal workers from the Trump Administration, strengthen Virginia's schools, and more. 

After four years of MAGA Governor Glenn Youngkin, it is time for smart Democratic leadership in Richmond, and Abigail Spanberger is the right person for that job. We look forward to working with her to increase the supply of housing across the commonwealth, invest in public transportation, and ensure energy abundance for our region. 

Ghazala Hashmi is a lifelong educator who has been a strong leader in the Virginia State Senate. As a college professor, she taught the next generation about democracy, human rights, and American values. Now, she is fighting for those principles for all Virginians. 

As Lieutenant Governor, Hashmi will lead the General Assembly to legalize more housing, support working families, protect our democracy and more. In our conversation with her, it was very clear she understands the moment our country is in and is responding to every call to action.
